Dr Ansari completed his medical training, residency training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, and a fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology – Microvascular reconstructive surgery at the University of Alberta. Subsequently, he went on to complete a highly coveted fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at University of Minnesota with Dr. Peter Hilger, former president of the academy of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. For his efforts, he was awarded the esteemed Jack Anderson Award for the top performance on the Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery national board examinations.

Dr. Ansari has been a faculty member at the University of Toronto. He was then recruited back to his alma mater, the University of Alberta, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery. He is actively involved in leading undergraduate medical education as the Director of Undergraduate Otolaryngology Education. Dr. Ansari is also in charge of facial plastic surgery training of the residents at the Grey Nuns hospital. He also teaches fellows and residents Microvascular surgical reconstruction of head and neck at the University of Alberta hospital. Kal Ansari has been the recipient of several teaching awards including the prestigious Shandro Award for most outstanding surgical teacher of the year. He has received this accolade for the last 2 years in a row.

Dr. Ansari’s research focuses on functional outcomes of facial plastic surgery and outcomes of innovations in medical education. He is also a reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Otolaryngology. To further enhance his teaching and research abilities, he is completing Master’s of Academic Medicine at the Keck Medical School at University of Southern California.

Dr. Ansari is an active member of American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also a founding member of the newly formed Pan-Pacific Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Ansari performs a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures of the head and neck including rhinoplasty, aging face surgery (browlifting, blepharoplasty, facelifting, etc), facial implants, facial skin cancer reconstruction, and facial bone fracture repair. Dr. Ansari also offers computer facial imaging simulation as well.

In addition to his clinical activity, Dr. Ansari donates his time to philanthropic causes endorsed by the Smile China organization, including performing reconstructive facial surgery on victims of the Szechuan earthquake and reconstruction of cleft lip and palate defects.
